The course aims to the acquisition and / or enhancement of the use and form of the English language approximately level B1 of the Common European Framework; the use of the four skills, receptive and productive in different contexts; the development of Life Competences; multilingualism and pluriculturalism; ELF; learning English in specific contexts  (English for Specific Purposes for Primary Teachers); text analysis and elements of language teaching on CLIL methodology

Expected learning outcomes, as for:

KNOWLEDGE AND LEARNING SKILLS:  students must prove to have acquired knowledge and comprehension of language content – the structures of the language, comprehension and analysis of written and oral texts – at a level of competence equivalent to B1 (CEFR).

USE OF KNOWLEDGE AND LEARNING SKILLS: students must prove to be able to use the knowledge and the learning skills developed during the course by passing the final written examination (approved/pass), as well as at the level of glottodidactics,  by creating a presentation focusing on the topics covered.

INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: students will have to show that they are able to analyse the teaching material available in a critical and independent way, and to further practise the language with self-study activities, working independently.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:according to the overall goals described above, students will have to show that they have achieved a sufficient level of oral communication skills in English and that they can therefore use the language at B1 level and talk about teaching (CLIL) and communicate in the classroom.

LEARNING ABILITIES:students will have to demonstrate to have developed a range of study skills in the subject area equivalent to B1 level, as illustrated in the overall goals.

The final exam consists of  a grammar test, with multiple choice questions and sentences with gaps that the student has to fill in with the correct missing word, and a reading comprehension exercise, in a 30-marks paper (pass marks: 18-30). Further evaluation element is an oral presentation based on the  a project work created by the students focussing on the teacher training area covered during the course. The positive outcome of the test grants 2 CFUs.

Deepening and consolidation of the linguistic aspects, form and use, of the English Language; development of receptive and productive skills; linguistic reflection and textual analysis; language teaching based on CLIL methodology.
Here is the Course Syllabus based on the structures of the language studied, and which will be tested at the end of the course with a written examination:

1st and 2nd conditional sentences. Verb patterns, ing/infinitive (all types). Verbs of perception. Verbs with two objects. Comparative and superlative adjectives (1). Defining and non-defining relative clauses. The Infinitive and the –ing form (present, past). Collective nouns, plural nouns, noun+noun. Something, somewhere, somebody etc. Adverbs of manners (regular and irregular).Indirect questions. False friends. Expressions of time: by, in, within, for, over, until, by the time + special expressions in/on time etc.

• The language laboratory is a 32-hour course. The positive outcome of the final exam will allow access to the fourth year course.
